APAD 203: Good morning, moon!

This has got to be one of my favourite photos. I took this using my old but ever-dependable point-and-shoot digital camera. Sometimes I am surprised at the pictures that come out of it. Like this; especially this.

I was walking my dog quietly when the sound of the plane jolted me back to my senses.  I looked up the sky and was pleasantly surprised to see the moon very visible over the cloudless, blue Phnom Penh sky. It was already past 8am. I hurriedly went back to the house to get my other dog to walk and my camera vowing not to let this moment pass without a photo-memento.

There it was – the moon – what a beautiful sight! I set my digicam to a 2MB file size. There was an electric wire that got included but I cropped it so that I get this money-shot, lol. If not for my dog who was tugging the leash, I could’ve taken more. But this one is perfectly fine that I chose to post for this week’s SkyWatch.

  1. Great to find your site. I had an amazing holiday in Cambodia in 1999. PP was a lawless place and we had to be very careful at night, but I just loved it, what a fabulous city. The highlight was exploring the Kampot area for a week. Gee I bet that place has changed. It was full of old chinese shop houses and decaying French mansions. Bokor Hill Station still stands in my mind as one of the most interesting places I have ever been. I remember wandering the ball room of the old hotel and the floor covered in spent bullets, and KR graffiti on the walls. On the trip up an elephant ran across the road and our driver freaked out that it would attack us!
Great to find your site, wonderful photos, I will be back.

    • Hi Mark. I envy your for having visited the wilderness that is Bokor. IT has changed dramatically, as has the whole country. A new 5-star resort is currently being constructed there 🙁 I don’t know if the old French building was taken down or was refurbished. It is nearing its completion. Kampot town is still quiet, although some of the Chinese shops and French villas have been taken down or remodeled.

I arrived in Cambodia in 2000, and there were still incidents of lawlessness at that time, even in the capital. Big change now, lawlessness at some level/extent are still present though. If you come back and re-visit, you will be amazed.

  2. a beautiful contrast between forever moon and now. it’s a great capture. happy day to you.

    • Thanks a lot, Ms. Becky. I love the term “forever moon” 🙂
