APAD 041: That’s my Phnom Penh!

The tree-lined Samdech Sothearos Blvd.

Ahhh… the flower trees lining up the Sothearos Boulevard are in full bloom. My apologies because I know I have not the captured it on camera well enough but it is truly a marvelous sight! A welcome sight and very pleasant to the eyes despite the hustle-bustle of passing vehicles. If you are planning to visit Cambodia, this is the best time of the year, when weather is dry, the sun is out all the time and the summer flowers are in full bloom. These yellow flower-trees are called pkah reach.
Just before the Independence Monument is Wat Lanka, along Preah Sihanouk Blvd. As you can see, the front gate is also covered in pkah reach blooms!
I’ve been attempting to capture the beautiful flower trees along Sihanouk, Monivong, and Norodom Boulevards and in our area in Tuol Kok but so far, I have not been successful. And I’m really disappointed. I think it’s really time for me to invest on a DSLR. I’ve been using a point-and-shoot digicam for years now (if you see it you’ll think it’s from the jurassic period! LOL.) that it’s about time I level up my gadget 🙂

  1. I hope to visit Cambodia someday.

  2. I have to say Cambodia is also on my wish list. That looks like a wide avenue without too much traffic.

  3. Is it already summer in Cambodia now? I don't like muggy weather like rainy season in Japan, so dry weather with flowers in full bloom is a best season for me. Yellow blossoms are typical summer color like Japan's pink color in spring? I like the wall of Independence Monument: I wonder what it is made of.Thank you for sharing, Sreisaat.

  4. Hi everyone, thanks for visiting. Cambodia is a beautiful country, despite what happened in the past. Indrani, you will be surprised to find similarities between India and Cambodia when you come here.PhotoCache, oh no, the traffic is a headache here. Apparently I took this on a non-rush hour :)Stardust, that's the wall of Wat (temple) Lanka, not the Independence Monument. I don't know what is it made of but it has a very ornate decoration. I will research on that for my future post. Apparently, we also have a flower trees similar to sakura and it's already blooming. In a few week's time, the fire trees (or flame trees) will also be in bloom. So yes, summer time is indeed the best time to be in the Penh!

  5. Interesting shots from your world.

  6. Wide, tree-lined streets are always much nicer to see than ones that are full of tall buildings.

  7. What lovely yellow trees! And the roads look clean and fairly tranquil.
