APAD 248: Yellow potted flowers
Rows of potted yellow flowers adorn the entrance of this private establishment to welcome the Chinese New Year.
These yellow flowers are lovely! In fact I bought a couple of them sometime ago but unfortunately they just wilted and died. I think they were meant only as decorations and not for the gardens to grow.

I have seen several stalls selling yellow, ripe mangoes at the public market near where we live and it can only mean one thing. Undoubtedly, summer season in the Kingdom is here and the much-awaited mango season is now on!
Price per kilo is reasonable, for now, but I expect it to be cheaper as we head into the summer. I bought several pieces, both yellow and green ones. I love mangoes. The green ones I eat with a combo of salt, sugar, pepper and fresh chilli, the popular dipping of the locals. My husband, not so much. However, he can not resist fresh mango slices when served for dessert. Or the delightful mango pie that I make from time to time…

I make my own pie pastry using a recipe I culled from one of the food blogs online. I have to say it is the best pie pastry I ever made. My husband loves it, too.

We have a small veranda garden in our apartment. Nothing spectacular, just greens and flowering plants in pots. We have orchids and roses and they give me pleasure every time I see their flowers bloom. We also have regular free-loaders and visitors who stay in the garden…

… this visitor seems to have a broken wing. My husband and I found it one morning resting on this plant.
APAD 233: Lip balm from Cambodia’s wilds
Before the end of the year, there was a trade far held at Koh Pich. With the theme One Province, One Product, all provinces in Cambodia put up booths showcasing their resources. They were joined by other exhibitors from Japan, Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Laos, China, and many others.
There is one booth that I was interested much and its by an organisation called Nature Wild. Nature Wild is an enterprise and marketing support service provider initiated by the Cambodia Programme of NTFP-EP (Non-Timber Forest Products-Exchange Programme) for South and Southeast Asia. Basically, it assists its local partners that are mostly community-based NTFP (non-timber forest products) enterprises and other social enterprise initiatives. If I am not mistaken, this is the pet project of my dear friend Femy 🙂
Here is one of the products that were on display:
Lip balm from the beeswax found in the the wilds of northeast Cambodia.
Of course I had to try it so I bought one. It works just like any other lip balms I’ve used in the past. For only $2, it’s not bad. They also have food products such as wild honey and vinegar. All products are made from Cambodian wild materials/resources, community grown and with environment-friendly packaging. And yes, I am promoting these products!
