One of the hundreds of shops/stalls found at Psah Thmey (Central Market).

My husband and I love going to local markets. It’s the best place to find all kinds of goods, such as you see in the above photo. Tell me what can you see?

Psah Thmey, like all the other markers in the country, have a wonderful, chaotic character in them that a first-time visitor are easily overwhelmed. Market scenes like this assault your senses — all things bright and colourful, the lively sounds, and the smell, oh, the glorious smell of a market!

More market scenes are found here.

Hello, I’m back! I wasn’t planning on a long blog hiatus but there you go… I just did.
Now that I’m here again, I would try to make up for the lost time.

Here’s my Monday Mellow Yellows entry for this week:

Tshirts galore, available at Psah Thmey (Central Market).

I just happened to pass by and these brightly-coloured merchandise caught my eye. Most of the shirts actually have good quality similar to those sold in air-conditioned shops, but are way cheaper!

APAD 207: Secondhand

When I was single and living by myself in Phnom Penh, weekends are the most dreaded part of the week. This was the time when the blues set in. When you’re alone in a foreign country, there’s no escaping this. So what to do?

I discovered the joy of thrift-hunting! I went to secondhand stalls in the market, scouring items from shoes to gadgets to home decors and what-have-yous. This secondhand stall is located inside Psah Thmey (Central Market) in Phnom Penh.

Lots of secondhand stuff are for sale in markets in Phnom Penh.

This stall sells beddings and stuffed toys and women’s lingerie (across). While I enjoy thrift-hunting, my purchases are limited to clothes (especially vintage), decors and kitchen items.

Today is the second day of the Khmer New Year… Happy New Year!
Sousdei chhnan thmey!

APAD 118 street dancers

These young people were singing and dancing inside Psah Thmey (Central Market). Their singing was accompanied by Khmer traditional music instruments. As they danced their way through, the local shoppers offer hem money in return for blessings and good wishes for the New Year.
