APAD 242: Barefoot

Posted by on Jan 20, 2012 in A Photo a Day, Addicted to Meme, All things Khmer, Cambodia, Cambodia life, people, sights, That's My World | 2 comments

The weather today is perfect for a game of volleyball. In Cambodia, football (soccer) and volleyball are the most popular spectator and participant sports. They are played everywhere.

There are plenty of potentials out there from the rural villages. Like the above photo, it is very common to see men playing volleyball, with bare feet, in a dusty yard.

Cambodia takes pride in its Cambodian National Volleyball League (Disabled), or CNVLD, currently the ranked number two in the world. This year, CNVLD aims to reach the top spot. If I am not mistaken, the current world number one is Germany.

APAD 239: The countryside Pajero

Posted by on Jan 17, 2012 in A Photo a Day, Addicted to Meme, All things Khmer, Cambodia life, sights, That's My World, transportation, travel, What's On in Cambodia | 4 comments

One quiet weekend on a farm just outside of Phnom Penh, the stillness of the afternoon was broken by the familiar chug-a-chug-chug sound coming from this vehicle…

It is fondly called the “Pajero” of the rural villages. It transports products and carries people from the innermost part of the village to the town proper where the town market is. It is a great alternative to moto-dops (moto-taxis) most especially during the rainy season.

APAD 234: Riding on a moto

The moto-dops (motorcycle taxis) is still the king of the road in rural Cambodia. You want tuktuk, ser, madam? Hop on in. Ahh, you have cargo? At panyaha {no problem}. We make room for you and your cargo 🙂

Dangerous? Yes. But that’s just how the people cope with the lack of a safer (and cheaper) mode of transportation.
