Look how pretty Mao Vy is while I looked like a plain Jane next to her.
I was arranging my digital photo albums the other day when I came across this picture.
This was taken a few years ago. On a cyclo was my former colleague Mao Vy and I. If I remember it corrrectly, it was after work and we were were on our way to the wedding reception of our officemate in one of the restaurants at the riverside.
It is common that friends and colleagues of the bride and groom are invited only to the reception, which is only fair enough as the ceremony is very long and has several rituals. The wedding ceremony begins very early in the morning and lasts till the late night dancing during the reception.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted by the newly-wed couple with their bridesmaids and groomsmen with a sompeah in their dazzling costumes. The bridesmaids handed us some cute figurines and realised that we received the wedding favours were were handed to us. I smiled at the bride who thanked me in return. The bride, who was a volunteer at the office, asked me before about getting these and I told her to check out wedding guest favors at FavorWarehouse.com and many other online shops for ideas. Which she did as she got some really cute stuff.
At the dining hall, I was surprised. The women, especially, were dressed fancily. Heavy make up. Big hair. The more sparkles they wear, the better. And I felt so scruffy for wearing my office clothes. Hah.

The fishermen are on their way to work. And their workplace is this wide expanse of the Gulf of Thailand.
We’re off to another road trip down the southern coast of Cambodia, to Kep province where the seafood are fresh and plenty and the town is quiet and laidback.
Signs, signs: Favourite love story
Saw this sign at the entrance gate of a local coffee shop somewhere in Boeungkengkang area. My good friend Lui-in-Penh decided to try this quirky coffee shop after our lunchdate. We were greeted by this lovely sign.

It’s just unfortunate that the sign was placed beside a trash bag, a sore sight that left a not so pleasant impression to a first-time customer, that’s me. Why would a trash bag be placed at the entrance? I have no idea.
However, inside the coffee shop was lovely! I was impressed. I didn’t take a lot of photos inside but the interior was something that’s out of the pages of a magazine, so cute and cosy.
It’s a nice place to hang out.
Don’t you agree?
I hope the management realises this and moves their trash somewhere that’s not conspicuous.
Our World Tuesday: Cambodian shops

My husband and I love going to local markets. It’s the best place to find all kinds of goods, such as you see in the above photo. Tell me what can you see?
Psah Thmey, like all the other markers in the country, have a wonderful, chaotic character in them that a first-time visitor are easily overwhelmed. Market scenes like this assault your senses — all things bright and colourful, the lively sounds, and the smell, oh, the glorious smell of a market!
