APAD 308: Ice cream!
I love ice cream! When the summer heat gets too unbearable, there are ice cream shops around the city to beat the heat and just, well chill.
Chill Ice Cream and Coffee Lounge is one of them and they’re easily spotted along the riverside. They have a good selection of ice cream flavours, however, not much to rave about. The ice cream was just alright. They also offer ice cream cakes, coffee and pastries.

One of my favourites! Chicken deliciously cooked in creamy coconut milk with various herbs and spices. Mildly hot and spicy. Chicken curry – whether red, green or yellow – is an everyday fare for most Cambodians and Thais. For us, foreigners, it is a special dish serve on special occasions.

I have seen several stalls selling yellow, ripe mangoes at the public market near where we live and it can only mean one thing. Undoubtedly, summer season in the Kingdom is here and the much-awaited mango season is now on!
Price per kilo is reasonable, for now, but I expect it to be cheaper as we head into the summer. I bought several pieces, both yellow and green ones. I love mangoes. The green ones I eat with a combo of salt, sugar, pepper and fresh chilli, the popular dipping of the locals. My husband, not so much. However, he can not resist fresh mango slices when served for dessert. Or the delightful mango pie that I make from time to time…
I make my own pie pastry using a recipe I culled from one of the food blogs online. I have to say it is the best pie pastry I ever made. My husband loves it, too.

I always look forward to weekends in Phnom Penh where we get to dine out at a restaurant of our choice. More often than not, we go Chinese. And there is no shortage of authentic Chinese restaurants in the city.
I forgot how these are called in Khmer language but they are called “siomai” in the Philippines. My favourite. I could a dozen or more of this 🙂
APAD 202: Do not snub this sign
I often see this sign along St. 51 (Pasteur St.) on my way to the Filipino store but I dilly-dally in going because the sign may be attractive but the interior looked dark and dull and lacked the oomph factor. However, because me and a friend are adventurous (to some extent) that we decided to give it a try.
And we were in for a surprise.
Boran is a Khmer word meaning “traditional” so immediately we thought that they are serving Khmer traditional dishes/cuisine. We were mistaken; the place offers Thai food. Small but clean. Needless to say, we loved the food there. We ordered pad thai and green curry and we were so satisfied. Very reasonable price for authentic Thai dishes. Highly recommended.
