APAD 280: Mushrooms and cockroaches

APAD 158: Local market in Phnom Penh
This is a typical scene at a local public market in Cambodia.
I love going to places like this – no kidding! There’s just so much happening at the market, varieties of colours to see, the loud noises, and the smells – aromatic or otherwise- that I find delightful to be in.

This is Psah Thmey, or Central Market, located at the heart of downtown Phnom Penh. It is one of the liveliest markets, the main shopping center and the number one tourist hot spot in Phnom Penh. Built in French art-style deco, the market is shaped like a dome with four wings, divided into stalls packed with all sorts of stuffs!

Psah O’Russei (O’Russei Market)
Phnom Penh
The cavernous, concrete building of Psah O’Russei market is a giant maze to get around to and getting lost is just part of the fun. At the ground floor alone, hundreds of shops and stalls are jam-packed with all things food and kitchen-wares (above photo). The atmosphere is so fascinating that I always come here just to soak in the sights, the sounds and the smells. Not only that O’Russei market is a perfect place to pick up a thing or two, food stuff or otherwise, but it also offers great photo opportunities and meeting with colorful local characters.
