APAD 186: Riverside promenade

At the end of the day, when the sun is about to set, locals and tourists alike gather at the riverside. Here, three rivers meet: the Mighty Mekong, Tonle Bassac, and Tonle Sap.

I could sit there for hours and just watch the boats and boathouses that pass by.

APAD 185: Live chickens

Posted by on Oct 25, 2011 in A Photo a Day, Addicted to Meme, All things Khmer, Cambodia, Cambodia life, people, That's My World, transportation, travel, work | 3 comments

Chicken, anyone?

These men drive around the village to find chickens that are sold by the villagers. They are sort of middlemen on wheels; they  catch them with their own bare hands – if they can catch them because these chickens will put up a fight – bind their feet, and tie them upside down with other chickens at the side of the moto. It looks cruel but that’s the way it goes here…  These middlemen  in turn, sell these chickens in bigger markets, of course, with a bit of a profit.

APAD 176: Unstoppable?

No rain or floodwater can stop this young lad from going to school. Kind of reminds me of me  when I was younger, lol.

And if it were me above, cycling through the flooded street,  I’d be happily  whistling, too.

APAD 165: Flooding in Cambodia

Posted by on Sep 27, 2011 in A Photo a Day, All things Khmer, boats, Cambodia, Cambodia life, festivals, Our World Tuesday, people, sights, That's My World, transportation, What's On in Cambodia | 6 comments

Took this photo just this afternoon on our way home, around 5.30pm. We were driving along Sisowath Quay and I noticed that the water in the river is very high. A few more inches and the water will surely overflow to the main road.

The rising water level in the river is due to the incessant rains the past weeks. In fact, floods hit some parts of the country since last month and there have been reports of deaths. According to Relief Web, about 100 people have been reported dead. The Cambodian National Committee for Disaster Management also reported that approximately 90,300 families in 15 provinces have been affected, around 170,000 hectares of rice fields and 63,000 homes were under water.

To those who have generous hearts, please donate some canned goods and clothings to the Cambodian Red Cross.
