APAD 340: Olympic egg race-car
I sat in my husband’s class last Friday and they were making something. The students were only given several pairs of chopsticks, drinking straws, four discarded CDs and pieces of paper to design and build a car. So what were the results?
This one’s my favourite of all:
I just love the creativity here, good design, and runs fast enough. Love the details as well, from the Cambodian flag to the reference to the Olympic Games.
I’ve got to hand the GOLD medal to the student who made this!

We spent most of our Sunday outdoors flying kites again. I noticed that in the area where we usually go there were lots of butterflies and other bugs everywhere.
Here’s one close up of a bee sipping the nectar off the flowers. I cropped it out of a larger picture, so pardon the blurry quality.

Last Friday was kite-flying with the kids at Aziza’s Place, a non-government organisation providing a half-way house for underprivileged kids in Phnom Penh.
These two boys immediately set their kites in the air and are too engrossed in what they were doing. Neither of them noticed this road compactor going in their direction. But don’t worry, no one was harmed. The driver stopped in that very spot you see on the picture and drove away to let the boys enjoy their kites.

Okay, this is another kite post. I can’t get enough of kites, you see. A blog reader commented that kite-flying is therapeutic – I agree!
I was surprised that some of the kids arrived to go fly kites with us. Luckily we have smaller kites for them. It is great to see that these kids are ditching with Gameboys and videogames and engaging in a more “active” activity outdoors. Kites and kite-flying is becoming popular and regular thing with the kids in our neighbourhood now.
The weather was, again, gorgeous yesterday and the kite was sensational. Next time though we need to bring more water and sunblock lotion.
