APAD 287: Great day for kite-flying

Posted by on Apr 20, 2012 in A Photo a Day, Addicted to Meme, All things Khmer, Cambodia, Cambodia life, Expat Life, That's My World, What's On in Cambodia | 7 comments

It’s the height of summer here in Phnom Penh and my husband and I found a new activity to do… it’s kite-flying!

We're lucky to have found a nice spot for flying kites.

Does kite-flying appeal to you?
The trick to this great summer activity is to find a nice spot with a steady breeze. Or pick a day that is just windy, pack some sandwiches and drinks and let the kite-flying fun begins.

It was one of the best things my husband and I has ever done together in Phnom Penh. I’m sure the fun we had will be best remembered as we grow older in the years to come.

How about you, what’s your favourite activity to do during summer?

APAD 279: Phnom Penh’s summer trees

Posted by on Mar 26, 2012 in A Photo a Day, Addicted to Meme, All things Khmer, Cambodia, Cambodia life, sights, That's My World, transportation | 7 comments

Yes, these lovely flower trees are back and the streets of Phnom Penh are covered in a bright explosion of yellow. They are beautiful and striking, don’t you think so? The first time I saw them I  really got smitten.

This is how it looks like in my neighbourhood now. I hope I don’t forget to find a couple of seed pods to send to my mother. She, too, loves flowers and this flower tree will add colour to our small piece of homelot.

I should have taken more pictures but I’m inside a moving car and didn’t exactly fancy getting out lest I inhale smoke from the vehicles and worsen my allergy.

APAD 195: Lounging on hammocks

Posted by on Nov 8, 2011 in A Photo a Day, Addicted to Meme, All things Khmer, Cambodia, Cambodia life, Expat Life, Our World Tuesday, That's My World | 2 comments

Under the tree – what an awesome place to hang the hammock. This big tree provides a cool, shady nook to lounge  or take a happy nappy on your hammock especially during the hot, summer season. See the smiles on their faces?

I, for one, love slinging (or “cocooning”) inside a hammock with a good book and basking in the breezy, summer weather. Traditional Khmer restaurants overlooking rice fields or the lake sport hammocks for customers to use while eating Khmer food. There must be something about eating meals while relaxing on a hammock.

This is my entry to this week’s Our World Tuesday.Click on the logo for more pictures of our world.
