APAD 162: Royal Palace at night

This is my favourite photo of the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh at night. It was taken with my trusty point-and-shoot camera while my husband and I were enjoying  the night river cruise.

The lights decorating the Royal Palace creates a golden (almost embossed) outline of the building amidst the blackness of the night. It was a fantastic sight, almost like something magical and surreal you read about in many fairy tales.

This is my entry to this week’s Our World Tuesday. Click on the logo for more pictures of our world.

APAD 089: The Royal Palace by night…

Night shots have frustrated me for some time now  especially that I’m only using a point-and-shoot digicam. My mistake always lie on my use and/or improper use of flash. The ISO setting doesn’t really do much to improve my shots either. They tend to be grainy and artificial looking. Bu then, one night last week, I got lucky.
I was snapping like crazy while we drove long Sisowath Quay and out of the dozen photos, this one, taken just before we passed in front of the Royal Palace, isn’t really bad.I love how this picture turned out. What do you think?

APAD 044: Rage against the dying of the light

Posted by on Apr 22, 2011 in A Photo a Day, Addicted to Meme, All things Khmer, night shots, Royal Palace, Skywatch Friday | 5 comments

The well-lit Royal Palace, showing off the distinct Khmer-classical style of architecture, stands out amidst the darkness engulfing the whole landscape. This was taken during one of our river-boat cruises on Tonle Bassac (Bassac River). We enjoyed the scenery and the breezy, balmy weather made our river cruise a more pleasant experience. The particular area where we were is the junction of the Tonle Bassac, Tonle Sap, and the mighty Tonle Mekong. If you are visiting the city, do not forget to take a river-boat cruise.

>Wordless Wednesday #34: This is where I go home to…

I know I am breaking the rules again, but please allow me to give you a brief background. Two years ago, I left the comforts of Phnom Penh for a work assignment down south of Cambodia – to the coastal town of Kep. Our organization had no office there yet so I had to use the same guesthouse room (where I live) as my office. There was no electricity yet – generator operates only at night – and so I travel to our project areas by day and do the paperworks at night. Each working day I was absolutely knackered from the bone-crunching moto-ride visiting remote villages. But when I go home, all the exhaustion simply vanished because of this:
