It’s been like this the whole day today – but also very hot. Crazy weather.

APAD 002: Morning rush hour

Posted by on Mar 11, 2011 in Skywatch Friday | 0 comments

This an everyday scene in Phnom Penh. Over the years, the number of cars in the city has increased to four-folds at the same time the middle-class families increased. And not just any cars, mind you, luxury cars. Phnom Penh has the most number of Lexuses compared to any city in the world.  I do not know the exact numbers and I don’t have any reports or researches to back this claim but this is what I overheard from one of my former bosses talking who happens to be working in a government ministry.

>Skywatch Friday 005: Rain in summer

I actually have a different photo for today’s Skywatch Friday but as I am writing this, thunder is rolling and it’s punctuated by flashes of lightning… ominously signaling that the rain is coming.

And rain did come.
So I went outside to snap the photo above.

Notice the flooded streets?
It’s a normal sight, and I can only imagine what it’s like all over Phnom Penh. An hour of heavy rain in the city is like being in a water-world. I kid you not. Yes, we are currently experiencing rains and thunderstorms in the middle of the dry season. Some freak weather we have here…

>Sky-watch Friday 003: Royal Palace at Dusk

Taken from a boat while we were on a river cruise. The sun has just set and the light is fading. I love the silhouette of the palace spires jutting out against the orange sky.

The Royal Palace as seen from the other side of the river. Summertime is, when the evening skies are clear and balmy, the perfect time for an evening cruise along the Tonle Bassac river. One can rent an entire boat, similar to this one, for $8-10 an hour. You can bring as many friends as you like and all the food and booze you desire. For additional amount (and depending on the number of guests and the variety of food and drinks required) the boat-owners can also provide catering.
