I actually have a different photo for today’s Skywatch Friday but as I am writing this, thunder is rolling and it’s punctuated by flashes of lightning… ominously signaling that the rain is coming.
And rain did come.
So I went outside to snap the photo above.
Notice the flooded streets?
It’s a normal sight, and I can only imagine what it’s like all over Phnom Penh. An hour of heavy rain in the city is like being in a water-world. I kid you not. Yes, we are currently experiencing rains and thunderstorms in the middle of the dry season. Some freak weather we have here…

Taken from a boat while we were on a river cruise. The sun has just set and the light is fading. I love the silhouette of the palace spires jutting out against the orange sky.

The Royal Palace as seen from the other side of the river. Summertime is, when the evening skies are clear and balmy, the perfect time for an evening cruise along the Tonle Bassac river. One can rent an entire boat, similar to this one, for $8-10 an hour. You can bring as many friends as you like and all the food and booze you desire. For additional amount (and depending on the number of guests and the variety of food and drinks required) the boat-owners can also provide catering.
