APAD 058: A sunny day, with cloudy sky

Posted by on May 6, 2011 in A Photo a Day, Addicted to Meme, All things Khmer, Skywatch Friday, travel | 3 comments

It was a  beautiful day, and my husband and I were driving home from a quick getaway in Kep province. Kep is a beach-town, more popular for its seafood than beaches, down in the southern coast of Cambodia. Upon reaching Angtasom, the half-way point between Kep province and Phnom Penh, we took a different route this time, an asphalted road (national road #2) Tramkak that led us to Takeo. We were greeted by this solitary sign and two girls on a  bicycle, as we took the long, almost empty road that brought us back to Phnom Penh.

APAD 051: Sisowath Quay

A beautiful sunny day in Phnom Penh, with a bit of cloud formation in the sky. I love passing through Sisowath Quay when it is quiet and virtually empty like this day.

APAD 044: Rage against the dying of the light

Posted by on Apr 22, 2011 in A Photo a Day, Addicted to Meme, All things Khmer, night shots, Royal Palace, Skywatch Friday | 5 comments

The well-lit Royal Palace, showing off the distinct Khmer-classical style of architecture, stands out amidst the darkness engulfing the whole landscape. This was taken during one of our river-boat cruises on Tonle Bassac (Bassac River). We enjoyed the scenery and the breezy, balmy weather made our river cruise a more pleasant experience. The particular area where we were is the junction of the Tonle Bassac, Tonle Sap, and the mighty Tonle Mekong. If you are visiting the city, do not forget to take a river-boat cruise.

APAD 030: Clear, summer sky in Phnom Penh

Posted by on Apr 7, 2011 in A Photo a Day, Cambodia life, Skywatch Friday | 4 comments

Warm days, clear sky, no rain, light breeze… that is how the Cambodian summer is like. Just like the day I took this photo. I just hope it doesn’t get warmer than the usual though – my electric bill last month has already skyrocketed and that’s mostly from using the AC machine and fans almost non-stop.

APAD 023: Floating village at night

Posted by on Apr 1, 2011 in A Photo a Day, Skywatch Friday | 4 comments

One balmy night at the floating village at Chroy Changvar Peninsula.
Phnom Penh, Cambodia

This very picture I took while on a boat cruise reminded me of the first four lines from a sonnet in Don Quixote (Chapter 34), a Miguel Cervantes literary masterpiece. It goes this way:

At midnight, in the silence, when the eyes
Of happier mortals balmy slumbers close,
The weary tale of my unnumbered woes
To Chloris and to Heaven is wont to rise.
