APAD 063: Do you have room for more?

Posted by on May 11, 2011 in A Photo a Day, Addicted to Meme, All things Khmer, people, transportation, Wordless Wednesday | 5 comments

Do you know how many people this moto-scooter holds? Make a guess.

If you look closely you will find that there are actually five people on this moto. Not only that the moto-scooter is overloaded but the baby is standing on his mum’s legs and only his mum’s arms for protection. Notice that only the driver has a helmet. Unbelievable, isn’t it?

This is a common sight here and it is one of the sights that gets me rather worked up. Talking on the phone while driving is another.

APAD 046: Traffic of shadows

Posted by on Apr 24, 2011 in A Photo a Day, Addicted to Meme, All things Khmer, Cambodia life, Shadow Shot Sunday, transportation | 7 comments

Took this in front of the Royal Palace (you can see the Palace wall on the right) mid-afternoon while driving to the grocery store. It was a quiet time for driving, the traffic light. I love the shadows cast by the vehicles. The Royal Palace is in Sothearos Boulevard. The pom-pom like trees on the right are palm trees; they are Cambodia’s national tree.

>Sunday Scenery 006: Balloon-power

>IC APAD 43

Driving along on an almost empty road one Saturday afternoon, my husband and I were amused to see this moto ahead of us. Just a few meters away from the French Embassy was this giant balloon, almost obscuring the moto-dup (moto-taxi) from the view. My husband and I chuckled at the odd sight before us and it made us think that the huge balloon was providing energy/power for the moto-dup to run. Alternative energy? Hah. Only in Phnom Penh!
