APAD 039: Lazy bones

That’s what I thought about Max when I first saw her in this situation. If you look at this photo, you’d agree with me. She didn’t move to another spot but laid there sleeping. But then again, I caught her sun-bathing many times in our veranda. She must have loved the sunshine despite her long, thick coat. I think this is a perfect entry for Shadow Shot Sunday 🙂

APAD 038: Empty roads

Posted by on Apr 16, 2011 in A Photo a Day, All things Khmer, Cambodia life, Photo Hunt | 7 comments

This is how Phnom Penh looks like today, on the third and last day of the Khmer New Year celebrations. Most of the people who live and work in Phnom Penh are from the provinces and the Khmer New Year is one big excuse for an exodus back to their hometowns to celebrate the occasion with their families and relatives. The roads are virtually empty and this is one of rare moments that we enjoy the peace and quiet. Come Monday, it will soon be back to the normal hustle-bustle in the capital.

This is my comeback entry to the Photo Hunt. To see more PH participants or details on how to join, please click this link or this one.

APAD 036: Happy Khmer New Year!

Posted by on Apr 14, 2011 in A Photo a Day, Addicted to Meme, Signs | 11 comments

Yes, the whole country is celebrating the Khmer New Year. Today is the second day of the three-day celebration and is called the vanabot. This is the day when Cambodian families go to wats (templse) for a special ceremony for their ancestors. This is also the day when families give or donate something to their less fortunate relatives and neighbours. It is amazing to note that families, no matter how poor or how limited their resources are, still make sure toshare something to the needy, especially on this day.
This is the third time we are welcoming the new year. The first, being on Jan 1 (international new year’s day), and followed by the Chinese new year.
