APAD 007: This is my Cambodia!
My husband and I went out for a drive outside Phnom Penh this morning. It was such a lovely day for a day trip. Even our pet dogs, Max and Joe, loved it.
This is the Cambodia that I really love. The charming rural landscape is dominated by flat land, verdant paddy ricefields, and the pompom-like palm trees, which is the national tree of Cambodia.
This sight is refreshing to the tired, weary eyes of city-dwellers like us.

This sign stands out amidst the greeneries inside Kirirom National Park. This marble-ish sign in gold text shows the names of those generous individuals who donated for the construction (if not repair) and beautification of a nearby wat (temple).
These people are mostly Cambodians abroad as well as local businessmen who, by donating a generous amount, automatically become patrons of the said wat. If yo look closer at the second pic (below) you will see that the texts are written in the Khmer script; the donors’ names on the left and, on the right, the corresponding donations in Khmer numbers but in terms of USDs.
In other villages, this kinds of signs are also painted on temple gates with one donor assigned per “block” of wall, depending on the amount donated. I shall try to get a photo of this one the next time I go to the countryside.

Driving in Phnom Penh requires all your five senses and ESP. You’ll never predict what’s going to happen. Other vehicles come at you in all directions possible and pedestrians just jump right in front of you.
This boy crossed the road only a few metres away from an oncoming Land Cruiser. Luckily, the driver managed to step on the break just in the nick of time. From where I stood I saw the driver, an expat, raised his hands in exasperation. Ahhh, the what ifs.
One must have the steel of nerves to drive in this country.

Is anyone familiar with this funny search trick for Chuck Norris on Google? This is a trick I’ve known for a while and it has been in circulation for a long time already. No one? Okay, well, allow me… Follow this instructions.
In your computer, open your favorite web browser and then go to Google Search homepage. In the Google search bar, type “find Chuck Norris” into then press “I’m Feeling Lucky” button. Now, let’s see what search result do you get?
Did you get this?
Now, if you’re still looking for Chuck Norris there’s no need to go through lengths of searching on the Internet.
Wow, Chuck Norris in Phnom Penh? Chopping meats and veggies and what-have-yous for dimsum dishes instead of karate chops and roundhouse kicks.
I’ve never been there yet so I cannot confirm his presence nor the food offerings at Chuck Norris Dimsum House, lol. What I did see while passing by was a black and white wall painting of good, ole Chuck in full battle gear inside the dimsum house. Now I don’t want that machine gun pointed at me if I eat there, do you? Unsettling, lol.
I’m so tempted to share with you a Chuck Norris joke (there are lots on the Internet!) I heard from an American colleague so here it is:
There used to be a street named after Chuck Norris, but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives.
Lol. I hope you’ll have a nice weekend.
By the way, I just finished my project 365! Woohoo! It took a whole lot longer because I didn’t post on Saturdays and Sundays (my rest days) and there are weeks where I don’t post every day. Nevertheless I am very happy to have finished one cycle. Today is the beginning of the next. Instead of APAD 366, this will be APAD 001 Cycle 2 🙂
