Monday Mellow Yellows: Good morning, Vietnam!

Ho Chi Minh City is a delightful place to go to. There is so much happening in every direction that you’ll surely miss a thing when you blink. The sea of motorists – and the sound of the horns – is just overwhelming.

However, robbery/snatching is a major dampener to a tourists visiting there! So please, please, be very careful when going there. Leave your valuables at the hotel. Don’t trot around with your fancy phones and camera. Take it from me. It happened to me ten years ago when I first went there. It happened again to my friend on our visit last month. Apparently, some things never change 🙁

Monday Mellow Yellows: Minion box

Howdy, folks!
I forgot to renew my domain so this blog ‘disappeared’ from the blogosphere for a weeks. When I saw the notice from my domain registrar, it so happened that my card also expired. Hmmmpfff. I can’t even. So I had to wait till I get my new card and — tadaaaa! We are now back online 🙂

So what kept me busy was my husband’s class where Fridays are project days. I get to assist the kids in the first class (he has two classes) in whatever projects they chose for that week. The photo below are examples of their projects:

A minion suggestion box and a leprechaun cup head.

I was surprised to learn from the kids that they do not have any arts and crafts classes in public schools. So this class is a sort of introduction to them to the wonderful world of arts and crafts. I can see how awkward and clumsy they are when it comes to cutting and gluing, etc., but I think in due time they will master these skills as I’ve seen how enthusiastic they are about Friday projects.

Monday Mellow Yellows: Colouring books for adults

Posted by on Jul 25, 2016 in A Photo a Day, Addicted to Meme, Cambodia life, Cycle 4, Expat Life | 2 comments

Howdy!

It is exactly after three months today that I am logging in again to my blog. My husband started working full-time again so we needed to divvy up our responsibilities at home. I cannot do them all, to be honest, even if I stay at home. So for the past three months, it was a period of re-structuring until we (yes, he and I) found a formula that works for us.

So now I’m back again to the blogosphere. After a long time of absence, how do I get my blogging rhythm back? Well, I browsed through my pictures folder for something yellow to post for Monday Mellow Yellows, of course 🙂

The other day I bought these adult colouring books at a local bookstore called IBC (along Monivong Boulevard):

Colouring books for Mamagirl, mandalas and flowers. I bought a mandala book for myself, too.

My sister is celebrating her birthday next month and I thought these would be great presents for her. She works full-time and manages to take care of her family despite the stress and pressures of her job in the development sector. These colouring books should help her relax. I know adult colouring books have gained popularity these days and many friends are already in the bandwagon. They do tell me that these illustrated pages and colouring pens and pencils are doing their minds some good. I bought one for myself, too.

How about you – what do you do to keep you relaxed?

Monday Mellow Yellows: Mickey Mouse Plant

Posted by on Apr 25, 2016 in A Photo a Day, Addicted to Meme, All things Khmer, Cambodia life, Cycle 4, Expat Life, That's My World, What's On in Cambodia | 1 comment

Guess what — the mystery of this unknown plant in my garden has finally been unraveled when it flowered over the Khmer New Year for the first time in years. I got excited! So my husband and I had to Google search and found out it is called the Mickey Mouse plant. Ha. I know, I know this bright and pretty yellow flower doesn’t resemble Mickey Mouse at all, at least the ones that came out from my plants.

Vietnamese Mickey Mouse plant, Ochna serrulata.

This is widely popular in Vietnam, especially during the celebration of Tet, or the Vietnamese New Year. They are most sought after around this time due to the belief that this plant brings in good luck and prosperity. To know more about this and why it’s called the Mickey Mouse plant, please check this link.
