APAD 102: Go In… or not?
I’m late! I’m late! Yet again. And I missed two consecutive weeks of Signs, if I am not mistaken.
No, I’m still here in Cambodia. No, I did not fall in a manhole (or sink hole, knock on wood). I’m just feeling a bit tired and cranky these days. The summer heat is just getting to me and all I want is creep back to my bed and turn the aircon machine on.
Anyhoot, here is my entry.
Go In Hotel. How straight-forward is that? Lol.
I found this hotel sign when my husband and I got lost looking for the plastic chairs shop along Kampuchea Krom area. I had a giggle at the sign. It’s uniquely Khmer, hahaha.
APAD 063: Fun with words
We were driving right behind this vehicle when the sign caught my attention. I didn’t know what to say so I pointed it out to my husband. He didn’t know what he was looking at in the beginning but when he realised it, he was amused.
The humour comes in the use of letters. Replace the “e” with “a” and you have “Kawasaki” which is an international company in Japan specialising in motorcycle stuff.
Makes me wonder though if the sign was actually intended to be funny, or, this Keweseki company actually exists and piggy-backing on the popular brand name by replacing some letters to avoid being slapped with a lawsuit?
I hope it is just the former. I can’t wait to find some “SUNY” appliances, “TAYATO”, “Metzubeshe”, “Yemehe” or “Sazaki” vehicles running around town and photographed them! Lol.
APAD 356: What do you mean you don’t know?
Have you ever seen a sign that makes you go… “seriously?” Well, this sign below fits into that category. Can you guess where this is? My brother found this while strolling at Otres Beach in Sihanoukville, Cambodia’s beachtown.
What do you mean you don’t know? Lol.
My brother was sorry he couldn’t tell me if the food there was any good (they walked past to go to another restaurant) but he said it’s picture-perfect and you can find humour in the restaurant’s name for sure.
APAD 343: Seriously?
At the outset I have to say that these photos aren’t mine but they are circulating around the Cambodian blogosphere. I saw them over Khmer440 and, because of their high amusement value, decided to post them here for this week’s Signs meme instead of the one I already have prepared for posting.
Angry Birds popularity in Cambodia is in an all-time high and everyone is cashin in on it.

APAD 273: A specious someone
My husband and I had a good laugh when we spotted this sign on a tuktuk yesterday parked just a block away from the Russian Market. I instantly took a photo but my husband posted it first to his blog, lol.
Just what exactly is specious?
A combination of “SPECIAL” and “PRECIOUS” equals to “SPECIOUS”?
To most native English speakers, “specious” isn’t exactly a nice word to label someone so I’m wondering why it’s used to this birthday person. I am assuming though that the sign is probably (a) an example of a KHMENGLISH (or ENGRISH), (b) a funny prank, or (c) a revenge for annoying someone.
But whatever the reasons are, it just goes to show that the tuktuk’s potential as an advertising tool is huge.
