The sign that never fails to send my salivary glands into a frenzy! |
A new find – this noodle-house is a gem! My fellow foodie and I were craving for noodles after watching a movie last week. We consulted our pocket guide and decided to try out this noodle-house along the riverside. With that in mind we hailed a tuk-tuk and directed the driver to go to the riverside. When we reached Street 130, we got off the tuktuk still not knowing where exactly the restaurant is. So, we just wandered off the Psah Kandal 1 area despite the heat. When we saw this sign, we knew right away that this was where we wanted to be – and it’s going to be in our list of great and
cheap eats in Phnom Penh. The Noodle House is sort of a street-side cafe with a cosy, friendly atmosphere. They serve all kinds of Asian noodles, especially
la mien, or the Chinese pulled-noodles, and they are made fresh everyday. The menu is still small but diverse enough that my friend and I vowed to come back to sample each item in their menu. And oh, the smoothies are a must-try! This street-side noodle-house-cum-cafe is located at the ground floor of a newly-refurbished French colonial style apartment.

Found this painting at a secondhand shop in Phnom Penh. It does look like one of the many iconic works of Vincent Van Gogh. Sunflowers by Van Gogh is one of the most reproduced artworks around by different artists and they are mostly displayed in many households all over the world.

Last Saturday, I had an opportunity to go on a field-trip with the children of
Aziza’s Place. It is a home and learning centre for impoverished Cambodian children. Lately, there were opportunities for me to spend some time with the kids and help out and last Saturday, they invited me to join them in this fun activity. To know more about Aziza’s place, please click the link above.
We went to a farm in Kandal province, just an hour or so away from Phnom Penh.It was a welcome change of environment for me as I haven’t been out of the city for awhile.
The field-trip was a great opportunity for the kids to explore the world around them, in this case, the farm. The kids enjoyed the visit, looking at feeding farm animals, catching bugs and insects, catching fish the traditional Khmer way, and playing games. The farm was big and had a huge lotus pond as well.On our way to the pond, we passed by rows and rows of the climbing bottle-gourd plants. The yellow flowers caught my attention.

I’ve been away for a whole week, sorry, folks. I had to do something important that I had not enough time to go through my files to post during this period. But now I’m back, the above pic is the only yellow that came out from quickly browsing my photo album. It’s a stamp that was affixed to a postcard sent from the Philippines.
It is a definitive stamp in one peso (P1) denomination re-issued by the Philippine Post twice in 2009 featuring the black-naped oriole. The oriole’s yellow and black plume is a very attractive colour combination.
Black-naped orioles are common and widespread in early second growth, open scrub and gardens, alone or in groups. It has a distinctive black and bright yellow plumage and its large size separates it from other species of orioles. This bird is fairly tame and noisy and can be heard from far away. Loud and pleasant pee-yaaaaooww or keeaaaooww call are repeated every few seconds often with several birds calling together.
